There are actually several things technically wrong with the original painting. That is a planer mirror behind the girl. If the observer was looking directly at the girl, he would be looking perpendicular to the mirror and the reflection of the girl would be behind the girl. That is he would not see her, and he would definitely not see himself.

Actually I consciously chose the theory that it's NOT a mirror image - note that the girl behind her has a hand raised up toward the gentleman, while Suzanne had her weight leaning on both wrists, on the table.
P.S. did anyone spot Eddie?
