I wanted to make the light effects from the magnifier more focused, any suggestions on how to do that?

Now wait a minute....is it fair to use other peoples' ideas from other contests? Seems like a personal foul to me. Unless you're the same person, in which case....um...sue yourself.

Sorry I did not realise this was done before. One cannot possibly go through every contest on this site to make sure. This took me a long time to do so thanks a lot for the rudeness. In any case I've asked a moderator to remove my entry. Maybe you can point out where this was done before so I can see how the lighting effects were done. CONSTRUCTIVE critisism is welcome (thank you to the others).

I would make a selection of the area where you want the light to be, with a 3-5 pixels feather, and then go to Image > Settings > Variations > Lighter or Image > Settings > Color Balance > More Yellow, or a combination of both.
It depends on how you did the lighting in this one. If you want it focused, you can try to paint in the effect by masking then brushing/filling the area (or you can try the always handy gradient fill) and then Duplicate, Gaussian Blur and change the opacity of the layers until you get the effect you want. I think it's more effective to duplicate a few low opacity layers than to try to do it in one or two layers. It allows for more flexibility.
funny, but could use some shadow for the mag glas and bug, but reallly funny
